Lit & Film Summer Viewing. In addition to reading three books (including Carrie), you must also watch TWO movies over the summer. By the beginning of the school year, please have watched both a Western and a Musical. Some of my recommendations may be streaming: some may not. You youngsters will figure out how to find the following or something else on your own.

  • Shane (1953) directed by George Stevens and starring Alan Ladd.
  • The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966) directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood.
  • Unforgiven (1992) directed by Clint Eastwood, and starring Clint Eastwood.
  • The Harder They Fall (2021) directed by Jeymes Samuel, starring Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Idris Elba.

2. a Musical -  This means a movie that has singing and dancing. Some examples and possibilities include:

  • Singin’ in the Rain (1952) directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donan, and starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.
  • Dreamgirls (2006) directed by Bill Condon, and starring Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, and Jamie Foxx.
