Paideia High School Summer Reading 2023: Gavin Drummond

Required Summer Reading

Gavin's English Classes

Your summer reading assignment is to read ONE required book and TWO other books of your choice for a total of THREE books this summer.

** Gavin prefers that you read the assigned book in print, not digital.

10th Grade English

Read Troy by Stephen Fry, plus any TWO additional books of your choice.

Important note from Gavin:  This is an unusual summer read; it's not a novel or a play, but a really readable retelling of the Trojan War myth. (1) It will take you a while to read it, so don't leave this until the last minute.  (2) It contains lots of Greek names and places.  You do NOT need to memorize them - JUST KEEP PUSHING THROUGH.  The importance of reading this is to give you a fuller sense of the whole story.  You'll remember the important names (e.g. Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, Achilles, etc etc).

11th & 12th Grade Themes: "American Beauty"

Read All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy, plus any TWO additional books of your choice.

11th & 12th Grade Seminar: "Regeneration through Violence"

Read All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy, plus any TWO additional books of your choice.
