Paideia Junior High School Summer Reading 2024: Required Reading

Required Reading Guidelines

How to Complete the Required Reading Assignments

Both of your We Still Belong projects and all 3 reading responses must be submitted through the Summer Reading Google classroom before school starts on August 14.

1) Read We Still Belong by Christine Day.We Still Belong cover image

a.  Go to the Reading Project Project Choice Board in the Classwork section of the Summer Reading Google classroom, and read about each of the project options (tip - viewing the board in Slideshow mode makes it much larger and better to read).

b.  Choose two (2) projects to complete for the book We Still Belong.  Each project must come from a different column.  For example, you cannot do two projects listed under "Random," but you could do one from “Random” and one from “Evaluate.”  On the Choice Board slide, highlight the two projects you've chosen in light yellow.  (Watch the video linked in the assignment for instructions if you do not know how to fill a cell with color.)

c.  Complete each project in a separate Google Document and submit through the Assignment in the Classroom.

2) Read three (3) additional free-choice books over the summer.

a) Respond to each free-choice book using the Google Form for your grade level when school starts in August (one form for each book, so you'll do this three separate times).

b) The response forms for Seventh and Eighth graders are in the “Choice Reading” category in the Classwork section of the Summer Reading classroom.  Remember to choose the form for your grade level when school starts in August, then select your name from the dropdown list.

Of course, you don't have to stop at just three.  You are welcome (and encouraged) to read as many additional books as you want!  You can read fiction, non-fiction, poetry or graphic novels.  Books in a series can count, and if you're dying to read a book that's not listed in these pages, go for it!   As long as it is reasonable for your age and reading level (ie, not Magic Tree House or Captain Underpants), you'll be good.

Format doesn't matter.  Both print and e-books are fine, and if you like to listen, remember that audiobooks count too.  Don't worry about doing a form for your extra reading, though.  Use that time to start another book!
